Advisory Board Members Needed!

October 19th, 2011 Chris Griffith

The Multimedia department (http://www.sdmesa.edu/multimedia/index.cfm) at Mesa College needs to form an advisory group for Perkins fund. This is a federal fund which helps them keep their software and the computers updated. The district does not have the funding for these things. They need 10 members to volunteer for this advisory group, they would only need to meet once per semester, so just twice a year. The goal is to have industry people provide feedback on our Multimedia department, the advisory group’s input would be vital to shaping our course content so students graduate with the skills and knowledge to be successful in this field. Meetings can be held after the regular SDFUG meeting.

Please contact Alfonso Saballett (asaballe@sdccd.edu), Professor of Multimedia, Mesa College, for more information.

Startup Weekend San Diego

September 22nd, 2011 Chris Griffith

From long time user group member Julian Bryant:

Startup Weekend San Diego is an intense weekend-long event gathering entrepreneurship enthusiasts of all talent types to form teams and launch their business ideas as startups in only 54 hours. Startup Weekend is a non-profit run out of Seattle that has held over 400 events in cities around the world.

In the span of a weekend, teams of coders, designers, marketers, and business developers will work together to take an idea from inception to launch. Experienced entrepreneurs and investors will join us to act as mentors and advisors for teams. You don’t have to bring an idea and team to participate, and any project is fair game. If you have a startup idea, want to join a startup, or are looking to learn from experienced mentors, this is the place to be.

Register here and use the code “startmeup” for $24 off registration: http://swsd3.eventbrite.com

We are also offering a Sponsorship Special for companies who would like to send two employees to the event. Also included are two additional tickets to Demo Night, a table for promoting your company on opening night, and more! Visit our website at http://sandiego.startupweekend.org for more details.
