Adobe Switchboard

A new SDK called “Switchboard” was recently release to Adobe Labs. Switchboard provides the ability to communicate from your AIR applications to other applications in the creative suite family (such as Photoshop, Dreamweaver, etc.). This really opens up some interesting possibilities as you will be able to leverage the capabilities of other applications directly from within your AIR apps. One example that I saw on the labs page was a simple AIR app that allowed you to browse your local disk for an image file, then using photoshop, convert the image to png format. I know this an extremely simple example, but it demonstrates the potential power that this could bring to your apps. The SDK works by opening access to the ExtendScrtip DOMs for the various creative suite applications (extendscript allows you to communicate directly with one the Creative Suite applications using javascript or any number of other scripting languages).
